I guess I am fascinated by the kinds of sounds it is possible to make with synths and all the electronic effects and whatnot, and kind of tired of guitars. I feel there is a lot of unexplored potential with synths and computers in areas other than dance-oriented music, and not just ambient. I play guitar and bass some too, and I have listened to a lot of guitar-oriented music over the years, but I am very fascinated with synths. It is possible to have so much control over the sound, and at such a low level. Modulation of various parameters opens up so many possibilities. And there is just something so compelling about even a simple saw and a low pass filter. But so much music made with synths is either too dance-oriented or very cheesy to me. I would like to see people explore more territory outside of what has usually been done with synths and computers.there is tons of music like this...its just not electronic...why are you looking to find this in edm then?...curious
There are elements of some EDM that I like. I like what Stephan Bodzin does with his Moog, for example, quite a lot. I just can't stand that incessant kick drum and clap and whatnot. It isn't that I don't wany any drum parts. Just something else, something more interesting and less monotonous, and without those tired, cheesy claps.
Anything but that overly repetitive and simple four on the floor beat! The more complex and varied DnB beats are a lot better. But I'd be interested in more music that also puts less emphasis on the drums.
